Cannes 2023: there is great expectation for the selection of the 76th Cannes Film Festival which will be announced on Thursday 13 April. One month before the start of the competition, the general delegate Thierry Frèmaux will reveal the names.
Cannes 2023: which films and stars will we see?
As previously written, the presence of film stars, such as Martin Scorsese, with “Killers of the Flower Moon”, and of Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro. And, after Tom Cruise last year for “Top Gun”, another blockbuster veteran, Harrison Ford, will be in Cannes, for the fifth part of the saga, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”. In Cannes there will also be a big comeback: that of Johnny Depp returning from the legal battle against his ex-wife Amber Heard.
The opening film
The former “Pirate of the Caribbean” was chosen by the French actress and director Maiwenn to play Louis XV in “Jeanne du Barry“, which opens the festival. There probably will be too Pedro Almodovar, with Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, the actor of the series “The last of us”. We could see Priscilla, latest effort by Sophia Coppolacentered on the woman who always remained alongside Elvis Presleyinterpreted by Cailee Spaeny.
What movies might come?
Among the films that could be present in Cannes are Ari Aster’s Beau is Afraid, expected in April, Roman Polanski’s The Palace (again “not ready”), or Steve McQueen’s Blitz and Lynne Ramsay’s Stone Mattress. Improbable Coup De Chance latest effort by Woody Allen (could Venice be the best showcase?).
