Why might Saturday Night Live return amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike?

Saturday Night Life returns to our screens this month for the first time since the show was stopped due to the writers’ strike.

The long-running comedy variety show last aired on April 15, with Ana de Armas hosting the episode. The show then took a planned two-week hiatus, but was unable to return after the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike.

But with the strike ending in September after 146 days because the union had achieved “significant gains and protection for writers”, it was now announced that SNL

returns on Saturday 14 October.

The evening’s host will be former actor Pete Davidson, and the evening’s musical guest will be rapper Ice Spice. Davidson was due to host the show back in May, but his episode was the first to be canceled due to the strike.

But although the writers’ strike is over, the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA is still suspending work, as it has been since July 14th.

As a result, many are wondering how SNLActors who not only write but also act in the series may appear on the show amid the ongoing cast.

Anyone who performs at SNLfrom hosts to actors and guest stars, operates under the Network Code Agreement (also known as the Net Code).

This is not one of the SAG-AFTRA contracts, the union clarified, saying: “(The SNL cast) do not violate SAG-AFTRA strike rules, and we support them in fulfilling their contractual obligations.

“This program is a non-dramatic SAG-AFTRA production under a separate agreement and is not subject to the union’s strike order.”

Other genres covered by Net Code include morning news shows, talk shows, soap operas, variety shows, reality and game shows, sports and advertisements.

Net Code’s contract also has a “No Strike” clause, meaning performers must return to work if producers request it.

The union, which is prohibited from advising them not to work under this clause, added: “It is important to recognize that SAG-AFTRA is fighting the studios, not the members who are required to go to work every day under other union contracts or personal service contracts.” .

“We stand with our union brothers and sisters in the industry as we also recognize our obligations under federal labor laws.”

After returning SNL On October 14, next Saturday (October 21), the second episode will be hosted by musician Bad Bunny, who is also the episode’s musical guest.

NBC also announced that comedian Chloe Troast is the only new addition to the cast for the upcoming season.
