Wicked Movie’s Jeff Goldblum can’t keep his filming experience a secret

Wicked star Jeff Goldblum has opened up about his experience on the film set, though he said he couldn’t. The upcoming two-part film adaptation of the famous 2003 musical will see Goldblum in the role of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The film also stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who will play Elphaba Thropp, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda Upland, respectively.

In a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Goldblum opened up about his experience on the set of Wicked. Here’s what he had to say about it: “I was just on the set of Wicked. I shouldn’t talk about it, but the news is in the air… You should see our witches, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. They are very good. I tell you, I shouldn’t talk about it. But one day during the shoot I saw myself crying in fear. A fear from my childhood came back to me. I told Cynthia Erivo, ‘You know, I’m remembering my first dream I ever had.’ And my first dream was that I was tied to a tree trunk and a witch, because I had seen Snow White, I also believe with a very scary witch queen, had me tied to the trunk and I thought she was going to cut off my head. I must have been four or something. And she said ‘peaches… peaches.’ I had two older brothers. We shared a bedroom for the next two weeks. Every time the lights went out, they said ‘peaches… peaches’ and tried to nag me”.

While not much is known yet about how the film Wicked will adapt the musical, it is known that the film will follow the story of how Elphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West. The show begins after the events of The Wizard of Oz, where Dorothy defeats Elphaba, with Glinda recounting the story of the Wicked Witch’s past. The theatrical production was divided into two acts and the next film adaptation has already been announced in two parts. This could mean that Wicked: Part One will adapt the first act, while Wicked: Part Two will focus on the second half of the show.

Jon M. Chu was attached to direct the film, with a screenplay written by Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz, who also created the musical. Chu is no stranger to film adaptations of stage productions, as he recently directed the film version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights, which was a major critical success. Chu is also known for directing Step Up 2 and Step Up 3D, alongside Now You See Me 2 and Crazy Rich Asians.

In addition to Erivo, Grande and Goldblum, Wicked will star Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle and Michelle Yeoh, who previously worked with Chu on Crazy Rich Asians. It is also known that at least one of the two episodes will feature a new song. The first part of the film Wicked will be released in theaters on November 27, 2024, with Wicked: Part Two will debut a year later on December 25, 2025.
