The Minnesota Vikings may have won their third straight game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, but they lost someone more valuable than their last win: quarterback Kirk Cousins .
Cousins suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Week 8, ending his season and perhaps his Vikings career.
Minnesota is now a little confused as to how to approach the rest of the season. Rookie quarterback Jalen Hall, a BYU product, is the only active and healthy quarterback on Minnesota’s roster. Quarterback Nick Mullens, the veteran backup, is dealing with back issues and is on injured reserve. The Vikings’ last option, Sean Mannion, was placed on the practice squad in early October.
There’s no question that Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell will use all three quarterbacks in the short term, but Cousins’ injury has fans speculating on who the Vikings might bring in in the long term.
How about a retired quarterback? Would seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, the greatest of all time, consider joining O’Connell and the Vikings for a second comeback?
The chances are slim, but a handful of Vikings fans seem to think so.
“If you don’t shoot, you miss 100% of the time. Fingers crossed. Vikings Twitter GM, let’s do our thing,” one fan said.
“I don’t see a viable ‘plug and play’ trade option at Vikings QB. There’s no 2016 Sam Bradford there. It’ll probably take another 2-3 weeks for Kyler to be ready game, his contract will complicate things. Get lost with Hall. Maybe a backup. Text Brady just in case. idk idk idk,” another fan wrote.
“If Tom Brady comes back and signs with the Vikings, I will buy a purple TB12 jersey,” a final fan added.
There’s no question that Brady’s persistence in trying to save a fairly mediocre Minnesota team will be the biggest news of the season. At 4-4, the Vikings’ playoff hopes are dwindling with every minute of Cousins’ miraculous recovery disappearing from social media. Even so, they were never considered title contenders to begin with.
That’s almost certainly not going to happen, and his ownership of the Las Vegas Raiders doesn’t make it any more likely. But there’s nothing wrong with fantasizing about your team making Sunday night a little more comfortable.
