Windows 10 Patch Tuesday update may not install for some users

Microsoft recently released the Windows 10 Patch Tuesday update (KB5031356) to users. The update adds several new features, quality of life improvements, and the usual bug fixes.

But unlike most updates, several users have reported that they are unable to install the update on their devices, further citing that they are receiving errors 0x8007000d instead. According to Microsoft, the issue affects Windows 10 users running versions 22H2 and 21H2.

The company also indicated that in reports received, error 8007000D (ERROR_INVALID_DATA) appears to be the same among most users affected by this issue. Microsoft only acknowledged the problem and indicated that it was investigating it. To this end, the company uses Known Issue Rollback (KIR) to withdraw an update while it works on a more permanent solution.

Affected users can submit a report describing the issue through the Microsoft Feedback Center. The company also advises users to visit its support page for more guidance on quality update installation errors.

Windows 10 continues to dominate the market despite Microsoft’s efforts to release new updates and features for its latest operating system, Windows 11. Let’s not forget that the end of support date for Windows 10 will be October 14, 2025.

But until then, Microsoft will continue to provide security and feature updates for Windows 10. It’s worth noting that Windows 10 version 21H2 ended support in June, so you’ll need to upgrade to Windows 10 version 22H2 to continue receiving support.
