HENDERSON, Nev. — WNBA owners on Monday formally approved retired quarterback Tom Brady’s bid to buy a stake in the Las Vegas Aces.
Brady and the Aces announced on March 23 that he purchased a minority stake in the club, but did not provide specific information. The league’s approval appears to be just a formality, as WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert released a statement praising the acquisition.
Las Vegas hopes to regain the league title when the Aces take on the New York Liberty on Sunday in a best-of-five series.
Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis is the majority owner of the Aces.
Brady, who won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, watched an Aces game on May 31, 2022, and then made a speech to Las Vegas Team star Kelsey Plumb presented a jersey and other gifts.
“I am excited to be a part of the Las Vegas Aces organization,” Brady said in a statement when the news was originally announced. “My love for women’s sports started at a young age when I would follow my sisters to all their games. They were by far the best athletes in our family! We celebrated their achievements together as a family and they still give I’m very inspired.
