Among these diseases, the institute highlights 250 known zoonotic diseases and more than 100 diseases that may arise from the coexistence of companion animals with their owners.

The most common illnesses from sleeping with, kissing, or receiving licks from dogs or cats include hookworms, ringworm, roundworms, respiratory illnesses, and allergies.

In addition, sharing a bed with a pet may cause sleep problems in humans, because by feeling the pet, pet owners may wake up and interrupt deep sleep, disrupting their rest levels, according to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine professor. . Vsevolod Polotsky.

“Animals can move, bark and disturb sleep. This is because dogs and cats sleep is not continuous. They will inevitably get up and walk on the bed, step on others and disrupt their sleep,” he told CNN added in the interview.
