In a new cover story ElleZendaya talked about Applicantsa film by Luca Guadagnino, which will no longer be presented in Venice.
The actress talked about how this film represents the next phase of her career:
I thought it was a good step towards what I would call the next, more “adult” phase. It was a little scary to deal with and I think it could be good. Ask yourself: “Can I do this?” he can have two reactions: to run away from this feeling in order to stay in a safe place, or to say: “You know what? To hell with him.”
The role was especially challenging for the actress, not only because of the sports scenes that “scared” her, but also the sex scenes that reflected “Zendaya’s view of sensuality as implied language“.
The actress then spoke about the growing attention:
After the last “Spider-Man” and the last season of “Euphoria” there have been radical changes. I used to be able to sneak in and out of a place unnoticed. But in Boston, I never left the house because there was too much stimulation there. Everyone (my friends) went to the bar and I said, “I would love to, but I think I’m ruining everyone’s evening. Once I’m in there, you won’t enjoy it anymore.”
Applicants will be released in theaters in April 2024.
