According to what was reported by several industry insiders, in the past few hours an indiscretion has spread persistently that the director of Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival would like Denis Villeneuve to lead the new James Bond film after his engagements with Dunes: Part Two.
According to the latest rumors, also reported by World of Reel and FandomWire, Villeneuve would be the main target for 007 saga producer Barbara Broccoli, with the ‘courtship’ starting around last January. The director, as you may know, had already been very close to making Daniel Craig’s latest film, No time to diewhich however he had to refuse to embark on the monumental double production of Dunes: the second chapter of the saga with Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya based on the science fiction novel by Frank Herbert will be released next November and considering that the producers of 007 had promised to reveal the director of the new episode by the end of 2023, by then the full James Bond directors will probably have come to an end.
It is worth noting that Denis Villeneuve, as well as his colleague Christopher Nolan, has never hidden his love for the 007 saga. In 2021, on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, he stated: “I would very much like to make a James Bond film one day. He’s a character I grew up with, just like everyone else, and I have enormous affection for him. It would be a big challenge for anyone to try reboot the saga after the magnificent films that Daniel has made: his chapters were unique, very strong and probably incomparable.”
For other readings, the sector is waiting to find out if Dune: Part Two will debut at the Venice Film Festival after the first episode was presented right on the Lido.
