4 Respiratory Diseases Most Frequent in Winter – El Sol de San Luis

Leonardo Francisco Muñoz Pérez, state representative of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), acknowledged that the incidence of respiratory diseases increases by 15 to 20 percent in the middle of winter. The most common illnesses currently are colds, flu, Covid-19, pharyngitis, bronchitis and pneumonia.

“It is natural that they are increasing today because the cold season has arrived and it naturally causes respiratory illnesses in people because viruses take advantage of this changing temperature situation, which is why we are promoting preventive health campaigns”.

To this end, he mentioned that the culture of prevention against diseases such as influenza and coronavirus has been promoted “by 15 to 20% compared to previous months, but fortunately, the protection we offer at the Mexican Institute of Social Security Mechanism” to prevent this phenomenon from increasing further and making the disease less severe. “

He commented that the more doses used in the community, the greater the feasibility of prevention, but noted that the most vulnerable groups will always be those with chronic degenerative diseases, children and the elderly.

It’s important to note that the more exposed we are to cold conditions, the more likely we are to contract respiratory viruses, as ventilation in living spaces decreases as temperatures drop, and physical proximity promotes the spread of viral particles.

It should be added that the Government of the Republic of Mexico, through the Ministry of Health, stated that the cumulative number of confirmed cases of respiratory diseases in 2022 was 308,000, an increase of 51.32% compared to 2021. The final amount was 203,000 560 pesos.
