Clooney came as a big surprise to fans, but director Andy Muschietti also approached another actor in May. In an interview with Esquire Middle East a few weeks before the release date, Muschietti revealed Nicolas Cage Would have made a cameo in an alternate version of Superman. Cage played an almost iconic hero in the ’90s. In a new interview with The Discourse podcast, Muschietti and his sister, producer Barbara Muschietti, revealed that the interview was not supposed to be released before the film in order to make the cameo a surprise.
“No, well, Mike, that was unfortunately a loss,” he explained. Andy Muschietti, when asked why he disclosed the news. “Yeah, I would never have done that. I never would. It was a leak, sorry, but it doesn’t seem to have affected it much. Of course I would have liked the surprise, but the truth is The film has a lot of surprises besides the Nic Cage story.
