Sofia Coppola paid tribute to Akira Kurosawa and his father in Lost in Translation, citing a commercial they both appeared in.
Sofia Coppola With Lost in translation created a real cult film that captivated an entire generation. But we are talking about a feature film with a hidden meaning, and quite private: among them is a video with Bill Murraydedicated to Francis Ford Coppola and Akira Kurosawa.
Two directors shot commercials for Suntory whiskey in the 1980s, and Sofia Coppola wanted to film just such a situation. Below we offer a commercial from 1980.
The commercial’s moment with Bill Murray’s protagonist character is one of the most special in Lost in Translation given that we see the character dealing with a strange and alien environment that he finds difficult to communicate with.
This is the hidden message of the film, which is then also conveyed in the relationship between the main characters, played by Bill Murray himself, and Scarlett Johansson. Recall that Lost in Translation is a 2003 film.
