1 He gave up his medical education to become an actor. Ironically, one of his first major roles was as a doctor in the TV series Open Heart.
2 Father was a Pentecostal pastor. He himself is a devout Christian and has stated that he often thought about leaving the cinema in order to take a vow.
3 He is the only black actor to win two Academy Awards, one for his supporting role in Fame and the other for his role as the title character in Training Day.
4 He was the second black actor to win the main statue after Sidney Poitier won in 1964 for Lilies of the Field.
5 He is still the most nominated black actor in Academy history with 9 nominations.
6 He has been married since June 25, 1983 to Paulette Pearson, known for his first film set – the TV movie “Wilma”. They have four children, including actor John David.
7 One of his career regrets is that he turned down the role that went to Brad Pitt in David Fincher’s Se7en.
8 Shortly before his death, Chadwick Boseman revealed that it was Denzel Washington who paid for the acting course at Oxford University.
9 He broke his little finger on his right hand while playing basketball as a young man. Since then, the finger often assumes an unnatural position, despite some operations.
10 The Equalizer 2 and The Equalizer 3 are the only sequels he has starred in in his entire career.
