The anticipation grows for the May Day concert by Romepromoted by CGIL, CISL and UIL and organized by iCompany. From today, Wednesday 12 April, the lineup begins to take shape of the Concertone which every year gathers millions of fans in Piazza San Giovanni in Rome and in front of the TV and radio, with live broadcasts on RAI 3, Rai Radio2 and Rai Play.
This year’s international guest will be the young Norwegian singer-songwriter with billions of streams AURORA: thanks to her harmonious and angelic voice and her undeniable talent, the artist is making her way in the music world at the rate of international awards and completely sold-out tours, as well as receiving esteem from the likes of Billie Eilish , Katy Perry and Tom Odell, with whom he recently collaborated on the single Butterflies, published at the end of January. And equally recent is the unexpected success of Runawaysingle from 2016, where on TikTok it exceeds 300 million daily visits.
Grew up in the beautiful forests near Bergen, Norway, AURORA begins to feel the desire to write at the age of six. Her first song Runaway, made it up just twelve years old. Success comes completely unexpectedly, when the video of one of his live performances, at the age of fifteen, ends up online and, after an initial refusal of a manager’s proposal to become an artist, he begins his career as a AURORA.
In 2015 he won the prestigious Spellemannprisen award, the equivalent of the Norwegian Grammy, as best debut with the EP Running with the Wolves, and two years later, in January 2017, he won two Norwegian Grammys as Pop Solo Artist of the Year and Music Video of the Year with the song I Went Too Far, adapted from All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friendthe debut album released in March 2016.
With the first long-distance job AURORA she performed twice in North America, with concerts sold out everywhere, as well as appearances on major TV shows including ‘The Tonights Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, ‘Conan’ and ‘The Late Show with Steven Colbert’. An exciting debut to which are added the headlining concerts in England, Germany, France, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Belgium, Norway and the long tour that took her to Australia, Singapore and New Zealand.
Best known for the cover of the famous song by Oasis, Half the world away, AURORA was born and raised in Bergen, Norway. Inspired by the dark atmospheres and melancholy of the gray skies of her land, the young singer-songwriter creates a sometimes mysterious sound. Some of her singles have also been chosen for the making of some successful TV series, including ‘The Flash’‘Teen Wolf’ and as a soundtrack for the FIFA 16 video game. Released in September 2018 for the prestigious Decca Records label, which has been following it since its inception, Infections of a Different Kind – Step 1 is the first part of a project that sees the continuation, A Different Kind of Human (Step 2)released in 2019, a bewitching electro-dream-pop with arctic and dreamy atmospheres, which well represent the talent of the young artist.
In January 2022 it arrives The Gods We Can Touch (Decca/Universal), a provocative record that deals with desire and morality, analyzed from the narrative point of view of Greek mythology. In each of the fifteen tracks that make up the album, we meet a different god: “The Greeks had gods and goddesses for everything. For anxiety, for wine, for sex, one that was neither man nor woman… Long ago when this concept of gods and goddesses started they were more human, more relatable, and almost touchable. Most importantly, they had flaws.” he claims AURORA. “In short, this album is a celebration of all the things we should never be ashamed of,” adds, “A celebration of being human, and what makes us human.”
With over 2.5 billion streams worldwide and more than a million copies sold, AURORA is conquering the world rankings, thanks to his undisputed talent and his stage presence.

Among the very first artists announced for the Concertone There are also Aries, the young singer-songwriter symbol of Generation Z, hey Coma_Thingsthe duo formed by California and Fausto Lama, a couple in life and in music, which mixes experience and urban sound taste with a poetic songwriter.
Periodically on the social channels of First of May (Instagram – Facebook – Twitter – TikTok) new pieces of the puzzle will be announced which, day after day, will make up the definitive cast of Concert 2023.
This year the artistic line of the Concertone develops around the concept “Generation #1M2023”, marking an important new stage in the musical storytelling that the First of May been going on for some time. Year after year, the May Day Concert it’s more and more the stage transgenerational music that is about to reach the ears of the national audience.
An avant-garde event, with an editorial line that reverberates over time and in the tastes of the public because it anticipates and nurtures musical interests and trends and blends them with social issues conveyed by the artists themselves and by the many protagonists of the event. A stage, a square and an audience where iconic artists and new talents of current music annually showcase the emporium of Italian music.
Furthermore, the final phase of 1MNEXT 2023the contest of the May Day Concert which again this year, among the over one thousand members, rewards the best 3 emerging proposals who will have the opportunity to go up and perform live on TV on the large stage in Piazza San Giovanni.
THE 12 FINALISTS OF 1MNEXT 2023 the contest of the Concertone
Last Friday, April 7, the 12 finalists of 1MNEXT 2023selected through the vote of the Quality Jury and the Popular Web Jury. Three of them will perform live on the Concertone stage:
BABEL (Milan) – CLEAR TURKISH (Torricella – TA) – DANU (Castelfiorentino – FI) – ECT (Naples) – EVRA (Bari) – LEANÒ (Milan) – MANINNI (Bari) – MOISE (Milan) – PLASTIC HAZE (Rome) – STILL CHARLES (Civitanova Marche – MC) – VERSAILLES (Milan) – WEPRO extension (Tricase – LE).
The marks assigned to the finalist projects, by the Quality Jury and by the public via the web, are public and can be consulted on the site 1mnext.primomaggio.net.
In order to ensure smooth running of the selections, the online voting control system invalidated all suspicious votes, including those obtained via VPN and/or IP generators. The final evaluation of the individual artist was established by adding, in weighted proportion, the vote of the web with that of the Quality Jury. The Popular Jury counted (as per the regulation) for 25% of the final evaluation, the Quality Jury for 75%.
The 3 winners who will go on stage at the Concertone will be selected during the live final on April 24 in Rome, through the vote of the quality jury composed of Massimo Bonelli (artistic director of the May Day Concert, president of the jury), Anna Rampinelli (Senior PM Warner Music Italy), Irma Ciccarelli (Rockol), Lucia Stacchiotti (iCompany) ed Henry Capuano (Songwriter).
The final will take place behind closed doors. Times, locations and technical information will be communicated to the finalists in the coming days. The absolute winner of the contest will finally be proclaimed during the Concertone.
