A potential trend is emerging: actors are being forced to remain silent in films.
New trailer for John Woo’s dialogue-free thriller Quiet night (below) teases the main character, played by Joel Kinnaman, who cannot speak (“Nothing speaks louder than revenge,” reads the film’s tagline). The trailer follows Hulu’s similarly dialogue-free alien invasion thriller. No one will save you.

Both will come, ironically, during the SAG-AFTRA strike, during which actors dutifully avoid telling the press about their studio projects.
It’s not clear whether dialogue-free films can be called a trend (an old media rule of thumb is that you need at least three examples to use the word). But it’s interesting that about 100 years after the silent era, at least a couple of filmmakers around the same time were exploring feature-length storytelling without relying on dialogue.
“The entire film is dialogue-free,” Wu said. Vulture. “It allowed me to use visuals to tell the story, to convey what the character was feeling. We use music instead of language. And the film is entirely about image and sound.” In the film, a man kills on Christmas Eve to avenge the death of his son.
Bye No one will save you, released in September. Directed by Brian Duffield, 22 tells the story of a young woman (Kaitlyn Dever) living in a remote home under siege by alien invaders.
“It’s a character trait: This person really wants community and doesn’t think they deserve it,” Duffield said. Entertainment Weekly. “I felt like (the lack of dialogue) just enhanced her character. For most of the film she has no good reason to speak because she tries so hard not to make a sound. She won’t say, “There’s a stranger in my house!” Plus, when you have Kaitlyn Dever, she doesn’t have to say anything. She can monologue with her eyes very impressively.”
Of course, there have been other films over the years that have had virtually no dialogue. Quiet place the films had a fairly minimal amount of dialogue. 2013 Robert Redford film. Everything is lost There was no dialogue except for the voiceover. And several foreign games, such as 2013. Mobius and 2010s Four times.
Quiet night is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 1st via Lionsgate.
