New Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse fan art leads Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy to a disturbing revelation. Steinfeld’s brilliant performance as Gwen Stacy made her one of the best characters in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Gwen Stacy previously showed her potential in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but the sequel boosted her prominence in the Spider-Verse franchise. This new fan art depicts an important Gwen Stacy moment that was missing from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
On Instagram, digital artist @artoftimetravel shared her vision of Gwen Stacy stumbling upon a specific canon event in Spider-Verse, Gwen Stacy’s death across universes.
In the fan art, Gwen’s death in the multiverse is labeled Canon Event ASM121, a reference to The Amazing Spider-Man comic book issue which features the iconic death of Gwen Stacy. A cartoon vignette of Gwen’s death, as well as the death of Gwen Stacy played by Emma Stone in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the eventual death of a character in The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series, and more appear in this haunting fan art. .
Could Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy die in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse?
There’s a chance Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy could suffer the same fate as many of her multiverse peers next year in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Gwen’s role has grown with each film in the franchise. After a promising start in Spider-Verse, Gwen got a lot more space in the sequel, where Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse ended with the hero forming his own team of multiverse Spider-Men. to save Miles and stop The Spot.
The end of the Spider-Verse trilogy seems to give the character an even bigger role. Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse will include variants of Gwen Stacy. There aren’t many details about what role they will play, and it’s possible that the scene where Gwen faces her death in other universes, such as in the fan art featured, could be included in the film. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hints at a possible tragic end for Gwen when the character tells Miles Morales that “in all other universes, Gwen Stacy falls in love with Spider-Man… and it doesn’t end well.”
It’s obvious that Miles and Gwen have feelings for each other, and this could lead to problems for the Steinfeld character. Gwen and her team of Spider-Men are able to rescue Miles and take him to their universe to save her father from being killed by Spot. However, the villain is now incredibly powerful, and his victory could lead to casualties on the side of the heroes. The Spot may target Gwen due to her connection to Miles, or he may die trying to save Spider-Man from the villain. Either way, Gwen Stacy’s grim nod in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will come true.
