Ajla Tomljanovic wins first title in 10 years

Australian star Ajla Tomljanovic, just in her fifth match back from a knee injury that derailed her 2023 season, won the most important singles title of her career in Brazil.

The victory ended Tomjanovic’s nine-match losing streak in finals dating back to 2013 and was a huge confidence boost for Australian tennis’ summer season, including the Australian Open.

In late 2022, Tomjanovic reached the Grand Slam quarterfinals at both Wimbledon and the US Open, defeating 23-time Grand Slam champion Serre in her final match of her career Williams, after a heated discussion, Tomjanovich was sidelined with a knee injury.

After reaching a career-high ranking of No. 32, Tomjanovic had to withdraw from all tournaments in Australia, including the Australian Open, and did not play again until July, returning after a first-round win at the U.S. Open arena.
