Australian star Ajla Tomljanovic, just in her fifth match back from a knee injury that derailed her 2023 season, won the most important singles title of her career in Brazil.
The 30-year-old reached her first final in more than four years, defeating Argentina’s Martina Capullo 6-1, 7-5 at the WTA 125 MundoTenis Open in Florianópolis, Brazil. ·Martina Capurro Taborda won the championship.
The victory ended Tomjanovic’s nine-match losing streak in finals dating back to 2013 and was a huge confidence boost for Australian tennis’ summer season, including the Australian Open.

In late 2022, Tomjanovic reached the Grand Slam quarterfinals at both Wimbledon and the US Open, defeating 23-time Grand Slam champion Serre in her final match of her career Williams, after a heated discussion, Tomjanovich was sidelined with a knee injury.
After reaching a career-high ranking of No. 32, Tomjanovic had to withdraw from all tournaments in Australia, including the Australian Open, and did not play again until July, returning after a first-round win at the U.S. Open arena.
However, she withdrew from the second round and has been working her way back to full fitness ahead of another competition domestically.
Her win would lift her world ranking from No. 543 all the way to a projected No. 282.
