Elected in 1960 and assumed office in 1961, Kennedy was well known for his good looks, charisma and talent as an orator. The president and his wife, First Lady Jackie Kennedy, epitomized the American glamor and optimism of the early 1960s. He was known to rub shoulders with Hollywood royalty such as Frank Sinatra and had numerous alleged mistresses, including Marilyn Monroe. His presidency oversaw some of the most significant events of the 20th century, including the outbreak of the Vietnam War, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the civil rights movement. His murder in 1963 remains one of the most shocking historical moments of the last century.
His family consists of a long line of politicians, especially his younger brothers Bobby and Ted, who both ran for president. Bobby was the front-runner for the presidency but was tragically assassinated during the 1968 campaign. Teddy served in the Senate for decades, but his political career was derailed by a car accident that killed his passenger. JFK’s nephew Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is currently—believe it or not—running for the Oval Office as an independent candidate in the 2024 election. There is more than enough material to create a show for several seasons.
