Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled for release this year, but the film risks being among DC’s worst. Find out why.
After being postponed more than once, the second chapter of the Aquaman saga would seem to have found its official release date. Given the record gross of the first film, DC Comics has announced the sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Realm, which is now scheduled for a US theatrical release for Christmas 2023. Just like the first title, the film will be produced and directed by James Wan and, of course, starring Jason Momoa. But the public’s reactions to the test-screenings of the last few months are not the best and, indeed, the film would seem to risk a lot.

The audience selected to attend the first tests of the film in theaters did not react well at all to the screenings, even going so far as to define Aquaman and the Lost Realm worst DC movie ever. Film critic Jeff Sneider is not surprised by these statements, recalling that even the first film was of poor quality. Perhaps the sequel with Momoa takes a big risk, having to make its way through more than one negative rumor, in addition to these last pre-snippings.
The film, in fact, should have been released in December 2022, to then be postponed to March 2023 and finally to December 2023. Furthermore, there are many reasons to believe that Jason Momoa is willing to wear the shoes of other DC characters. Speculations indicate that one of them could be the bounty hunter Lobe to be played by the current King of Atlantis. Nothing is confirmed yet, but if this sequel doesn’t go well, Momoa could step down as the Water Lord. Finally, the film, which has not yet been released, has to make its way amid the controversies of the presence of Amber Heard, fresh from the trial against Johnny Depp, and the criticisms received for the dialogues and the script of the first title.
What do we know about the film?

We don’t have a certain plot yet, but the synopsis of the film has been officially released: “When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must form an uneasy alliance with an uneasy ally to save Atlantis and the world from total devastation.It is unknown who this “uncomfortable ally” is, but the film will almost certainly pick up where it left off, with Aquaman crowned rightful king of Atlantis, after defeating Orm. The information on the plot of the film did not end there. The director and some crew members have stated that the film will not be an adaptation of any particular comic book, but will be inspiredsuch as themes and settings, from the Silver Age of the DC. He will be a little more serious and explore new worlds.
As for the cast in addition to, of course, Jason Momoa as the protagonist, the sequel will star Amber Heard as Mera and Patrick Wilson who will once again play Orm. Also we will see the return of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Willem Dafoeas Black Manta and Nuidius Vulko, respectively. Finally, Aquaman and the Lost Realm will reprise the roles of Temuera Morrison, Nicole Kidman and Dolph Lundgren and host new characters played by Indya Moore and Pilou Asbæk. Another rumor is also making thousands of fans believe that Ben Affleck could appear as Batman.
We don’t have a trailer for yet Aquaman and the Lost Realm which, as we have seen, will have to face quite a few obstacles in order to be well received by the public and critics at the end of the year. In the meantime, keep following us for updates on the latest releases!
