“I left home at 18, at the height of Covid, while my parents were splitting up. I don’t have an exaggerated connection with them, but I say this without malice, with calm: they had to focus on my younger brother, who was very sick. He had serious clinical problems until he discovered he was transgender and chose to transition. He is better now, but still bears the consequences of his illness and lives with my mother. I recently got my driver’s license and getting to it in Anzio is not always easy. At night I tell myself: “Go, Ari!”
Is she calm when she goes out and walks in the dark?
“Not now, I feel defenseless. Walking down the street, I feel defenseless, and when I come home and not knowing if I will find the door broken in, I feel defenseless.”
Is security our country’s most important concern?
“Didactics too: it is necessary to reconsider subjects, in particular from secondary school, teachers’ salaries… And it would be important to take some sixty-year-olds, even fifty-year-olds, and put them back on the benches to teach them life: they are too far from this world, the gap is exaggerated. I think about those who are not yet inclusive. I am LGBTQ+ and have always done my own thing: I fight, I write love texts in which I address the girl. But breaking down these barriers is not enough.”
Is the music world inclusive?
“Yes, but some legacies die hard: male characters are considered stronger, female characters perform better in heels and dresses.”
It’s not really his style. Do you feel accepted?
“On.”
Would you change anything about your trip?
“No, I’m happy. I did what I wanted, respecting my time. And without becoming a military machine, in terms of numbers and in life, I managed to buy a house and a car, stay in Rome, and enjoy a certain financial peace of mind. At first I didn’t even have change for coffee. And in general, my friends from Anzio, from the suburbs, now tell me: “You are famous now, you have money!”
