Arrest warrant issued against the Olympic swimming champion

The sentence was announced for Keller, who admitted to his crime in court and agreed to cooperate with authorities in connection with the January 6, 2021, raid on Congress.

District Judge Richard Leon sentenced the national athlete to 6 months of home detention, as well as 3 years of probation and 360 hours of community service.

In court documents, prosecutors said the athlete, who joined a chorus of rioters singing the US national anthem at the Capitol, resisted and shook a police officer.

Additionally, in videos submitted as evidence to the court, Keller was seen making obscenities toward then-Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Keller participated in the Olympic race 3 times on behalf of the United States of America, and brought his country 5 medals, including 2 gold.

What happened in the raid on the Congress building?

On January 6, 2021, far-right groups and Trump supporters in the United States of America raided the Congress building, where the session to certify the results of the November 3, 2020 elections was held.

5 people, including a police officer, were killed in the raid. Former US President Donald Trump, who was tried on charges of incitement of public insurrection over the raid, was acquitted in a Senate vote in February 2021.

Democrats in the House of Representatives formed a committee and began investigating the incident, despite Republican objections.
