A Los Angeles judge last Thursday sentenced Masterson to 30 years in prison for raping two women in 2003.
In a video posted to Instagram, Kutcher and Kunis said they regret any pain they may have caused with their letters, which were made public on Friday.
Kutcher said Masterson’s family contacted them last May after the actor was convicted of rape and asked them to write letters describing “the man we have known for 25 years.”
The documents were published on the Internet by the portal Hollywood Reporter and other magazines.
Kutcher described Masterson, now 47, as a man who treated people “with decency, equality and generosity,” in a letter dated July 27, 2023.
Kunis, in his letter to Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlene F. Olmedo, called Masterson “an outstanding role model and friend” and an “extraordinary big brother.”
The aforementioned Los Angeles Superior Court judge sentenced Masterson to 30 years in prison on September 7, 2023, after hearing the women’s statements and defense attorneys’ demands for justice.
