Atlanta United vs Nashville SC – likely lineups

Still reeling from defeat in the 2023 League Cup Final, Nashville SC will travel to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to face Atlanta United in MLS on Sunday, August 27th.

Having failed to win in any of the last seven meetings of the teams, the Five Stripes are sent for the weekend, trying to get the better of the guests. Atlanta United vs. Nashville is scheduled to kick off at 1:30 am UTC.

Atlanta United v Nashville SC game preview, what stage are the two teams in

Atlanta United

Atlanta United returned to MLS play on Monday with a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field.

Former Celtic striker Giorgos Giakumakis delivered a top-notch performance, scoring in both halves to doom the Sounders to a third defeat in a row.

Atlanta United had previously suffered a four-game losing streak in all competitions to qualify them from the 2023 European Cup group stage.

Gonzalo Pineda’s men look to pick up the trail they left off against the Seattle Sounders and this weekend’s game will see them take on a team that hasn’t lost in their last seven games, with four wins and three draws after losing by 2. August 2020.

Nashville SC

Nashville’s dreams of winning a League Cup for the first time were shattered last Sunday when they lost on penalties to a Lionel Messi-inspired Inter Miami team.

After Messi scored his 10th goal of the tournament and upset the balance in the 23rd minute, Drake Callender scored an own goal in the 57th minute to force extra time.

Gary Smith’s men are now moving to the MLS, where they have lost five of their last six matches, with the exception of a 2-0 victory over DC United on July 2.

However, after a successful League Cup campaign, Nashville will return to the league with full confidence as they look to cement their position at the top of the table.

With 38 points in 24 games, the Golden Boys are currently sixth in the Eastern Conference standings behind Saturday’s hosts, albeit with one more game to go.

News from teams

With a landslide victory, Pineda could once again field a similar line-up this weekend with Brooks Lennon, Miles Robinson, Louis Abram and Caleb Wylie once again making up the defensive line.

With a double in the aforementioned game, Jakoumakis scored 12 goals in 18 league games and should lead the Five Stripes attack with Chande Silva and Edwin Mosquera providing support from the flanks.

In midfield, Matheus Rossetto and Tristan Muyumba are expected to be the pinnacle of midfield, while Thiago Almada, who has scored 18 goals this season, should retain his role at the farthest position in midfield.

American defender Jack Maher missed the League Cup final against Inter Miami with a stomach problem but could return to action this weekend.

Defenseman Nick DePay has not yet played this season as he continues to recover from an Achilles tendon injury and will not play Saturday’s game.

With 13 goals this season, Hani Mukhtar currently tops the MLS scorers list and the German striker is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
