Irish celebrities will be in the spotlight for the rest of the year, be it in Hollywood films, domestic TV shows, podcast tours or new albums.
These are some of the biggest names to watch this fall and winter…
In movie
Barry Keoghan (Lucy North/PA)
The long-awaited film Saltburn Starring two Irish actors: Barry Keoghan and Alison Oliver.
Dublin-born Keoghan, 30, who starred in Banshee of Inisherin — is central to this psychological drama, scheduled for release in November.
It follows Keoghan’s character Oliver, a young university student who is drawn into the world of his aristocratic friend Felix (played by Euphoria star Jacob Elordi).
Cork-born Oliver, 26, who you may recognize from her role in the film adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel. Conversations with friends in 2022 she plays Felix’s sister Venice.
Saoirse Ronan (Ian West/PA)
Another major blockbuster featuring Irish talent is a sci-fi thriller. Enemyfeaturing Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal.
Brooklyn star Ronan, 29, and Ordinary people 27-year-old actor Mescal plays married couple Junior and Hen in the film adaptation of the book of the same name.
The film, due in theaters at the end of October, is set in the near future. It follows a couple living on a secluded farm as they struggle with the effects of climate change, and what happens when a stranger comes with an unusual proposal.
On TV
Nicola Coughlan (Kirsty O’Connor/PA)
Nicola Coughlan, who played Claire in Derry Girls, will star in another comedy TV show later this year.
With a working title Big MoodThe six-part series follows the friendship between Coughlan, 36, and Lydia West (It is a sin), and what happens when mental health issues are added to the mix.
A release date has not yet been set, but the series is likely to air later this year on Channel 4.
Dublin-born Siobhan Cullen, who co-starred with Roisin Gallagher in TheDry – returns with a new darkly comic crime drama, Obituary.
Cullen, 33, plays struggling writer Elvira, who is paid to write an obituary, which isn’t much money in the small town where she lives.
Elvira’s solution? Kill someone she doesn’t particularly like and then write an obituary.
The first episode aired on RTÉ on 26 September and also featured an ensemble cast. Bad Sisters actor Michael Smiley.
In comedy
Stand-up comedian Joanne McNally is best known for co-starring with pal Vogue Williams on the popular podcast My therapist was stalking me – a funny, candid exploration of the problems they said their therapists couldn’t handle.
McNally, 40, is currently on The Prosecco Express world tour, heading to Canada and Australia before finishing with six dates in Dublin in January.
Plus, she’s squeezing in a live tour My therapist was stalking me in November and December with Williams.
You can also catch this comedy couple on their new TV show this fall. Sex drive Joan and Vogue – currently broadcast on Channel 4.
In fashion
Jonathan Anderson (Dominic Lipinski/PA)
Artistic director Jonathan Anderson, who heads fashion brand Loewe, returns to the runway at Paris Fashion Week on September 29.
Expect the unexpected at the Loewe show: the Derry-based designer is known for his unconventional creations and fashion that is perhaps closer to art than clothing. The show starts at 10:30am Irish time live.
In music
Rapper Celaviedmai has had a successful year so far. She opened for Kelis at the Guinness Storehouse Dublin and Gay Times announced her as their 2023 Breakthrough Artist.
The 30-year-old singer was born and raised in Galway and is known for mixing genres and using a mixture of English, Irish and French in her lyrics.
She just released her new single, Cool character – and her second EP is said to not be released. Watch this space.
