Billie Eilish returns to work on one of the most anticipated films of the year. After the film won the Academy Award for Best Original Song 007 – No time to die the turn has come Barbie. In a post on Instagram, the American singer announced the release of the song “What I Was Made For”, taken from the soundtrack of the film, featuring Margot Robbie and Ryan Reynolds as a Mattel doll and her partner Ken.
“I think I forgot / How to be happy / Something I’m not / But something I can be / Something I’m waiting for / Something I’m made for / Something what I was made for,” sings Billie Eilish with a 50s haircut. and a yellow outfit that winks at the vintage Barbie aesthetic. It’s the voice of the doll that represents all the kids on the planet and wonders what her purpose in the world is: “I was perfect / Looked so alive, turns out I’m not real / Just something you paid for / What I was for created?”

Billy Eilish also directed the music video for What I Was Made For, telling Apple Music, “This is special. This is special for me. I don’t know, I love all my videos and some of them are old but I still love them all. But this, I don’t know, I think I’m really proud of it. It seems to me that in the first few conversations with the team about how I wanted the video to look, it was one of those things that I answered, “OK, do you have any ideas for the video? And, of course, I said, “No.” And then I thought, “Oh, yes, I have it.” I didn’t even realize he was there. And it wasn’t the full story, it was literally just a picture. It was just me rotated 45 degrees, profile to the left, Barbie blonde wig, yellow dress, greyish green background, table. I’m doing something on the table, I don’t know what it is, that’s all I see.
