The government has decided to maintain a nationwide state of health emergency for avian influenza and bans exhibitions, fairs and events involving the concentration and movement of poultry.
The measure was decided through Resolution No. 959/2023 of the National Service for Agricultural Food Hygiene and Quality, which was published in the Official Gazette this Wednesday.
“Exhibitions, fairs, events and entertainment involving the concentration and movement of domestic birds (hens, roosters, chicks, turkeys, redfish, pheasants, quail, ducks and geese) are prohibited nationwide. ) “, for all reasons and purposes, taking into account the declaration of a state of health emergency in the Argentine Republic due to highly pathogenic avian influenza”, according to the official text.
The resolution also clarifies that non-compliance or violation of the measure “will be subject to the sanctions provided for in Law No. 27,233, without prejudice to the preventive actions that can be taken under the provisions of Resolution No. 38 of December 3”. On February 14 this year, the country first detected the avian influenza virus, a highly contagious viral disease that affects both poultry and wild birds. A day later, SENASA declared a national health emergency and identified additional measures to reduce the risk of the spread of the virus.
Avian influenza viruses are spread through feces and respiratory secretions, either through direct contact with secretions from infected birds or indirectly through contaminated water.
