Birthday boy Michael Jordan’s $2 billion partnership with Nike will take historic new leap

This year is shaping up to be a special year for sneakerheads. Just ahead of Michael Jordan’s birthday, people are getting excited as his multi-billion dollar partnership with Nike unveils plans to open the first Jordan “World of Flight” store in the U.S. expectations reached their peak. “Flying World” launches in 2022 and is called “A destination that celebrates the legacy and future of basketball culture”. This marks the brand’s fourth such store globally.

NBC reports that the historic store will be located on Walnut Street near Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia. While not much has been revealed about the flagship store’s opening date, the news is a fitting way to commemorate the Chicago Bulls legend’s special day, as he turns 61 today.

It is worth noting that Jordan Brand chose a historic century-old building as the location. This two-story building was built in 1921.Nike calls the store “Celebrating basketball’s cultural heritage and future destinations.” The 7,000-square-foot store’s design concept draws inspiration from the intersection of Philadelphia’s historic architecture and Jordan Brand, creating a unique and immersive space, just like its predecessor.

Jordan Flying World Store has become international

Jordan’s Flying World has debuted in three iconic locations: Italy, Japan and Dubai. The journey begins in December 2022 with the opening of the first store in Italy. Following the success of its debut, Jordan World of Flight opened a Jordan World of Flight store in Shibuya, Tokyo in March 2023, quickly expanding its influence globally. It became the first Jordan store in Japan.

Additionally, the Shibuya store is the largest to date at 9,200 square feet, providing a paradise for sneakerheads. The centerpiece of the Shibuya store displays top-notch Jordan Brand products and more. As the brand continues to dream, the U.S. “World of Flight” store will be another sign of the success of the Michael Jordan-Nike collaboration.
