Angelina Jolie, on the contrary, believes that the judge who heard their child custody case, John Oderkirk, showed bias in favor of Brad Pitt. She claims Ouderkirk did not provide her children with the opportunity to testify, even though California law allows children over 14 to do so. As a result, she successfully petitioned in July 2021 to remove Judge Oderkirk from the case. Now Jolie is taking further action by advocating for Pica’s Law, a proposed law that would seek to require mandatory domestic violence training for judges and court staff. She called on California Gov. Gavin Newsom to support the legislation, which she believes will protect children from abusive situations and provide needed training for forensic professionals.
However, Brad Pitt’s side disputes Jolie’s claims of bias and her attempts to link the custody case to the proposed legislation. They argue that the 2021 appeals court decision was based solely on a technical procedure and had no bearing on the actual facts of the custody case. They also deny any wrongdoing on the part of Judge Ouderkirk, arguing that he did not collude with Brad Pitt or was manipulated in any way.
Brad Pitt’s legal team expressed disappointment in Jolie’s actions, likening them to “Donald Trump-like distortions” and accusing her of misrepresenting facts without taking into account the harm they could cause to innocent third parties simply trying to do their job. They emphasize that the law she supports is not directly related to her custody case, and they are puzzled that she is using her advocacy efforts in a way that appears libelous and self-serving.
What led to Angelina and Brad’s divorce?
In 2016, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had a heated argument, leading to their divorce after nearly five years of arguing over who should take care of their children. According to FBI reports obtained by Page 6x, Brad Pitt became very angry on a plane on September 14, 2016. Angelina said he drank and then did some very bad things. She told the FBI that Brad took her to the restroom and “grabbed her head, shaking her.” They also argued over one of their children, and she said Brad shook her shoulders. When the kids asked, “Mom, are you okay?” Brad responded that she was “crazy” and was “ruining” their family.
