“But am I not a little old?”

Gibson himself thinks he’s “a little too old” for a possible Mad Max return (though he’s still prepping Lethal Weapon 5).

Mad Max, Mel Gibson on his return to the franchise:

During a new interview Mel Gibson answered a question about his possible return to the franchise Crazy Maxsaga, director George Miller who launched it in 1979.

Answering with all honesty, Gibson admitted that he felt “a little too old” to return to the saga: “I talked to George (Miller) and at one point I wanted to get involved, but I’m too old to do it now.Gibson played Max Rockatansky in the first three films of the saga: Interceptor, Interceptor, The Road Warrior and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

After Miller directed Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, he took a 30-year hiatus from the franchise. He returned to the post-apocalyptic world with success, directing the acclaimed 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road.

The film, a sort of remake/reboot of the saga starring Tom Hardy as Mad Max, was an exceptional commercial and critical success, grossing $380 million worldwide and receiving Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Best Director. as well as winning six statuettes in technical categories.

Miller then devoted himself to creating the Furiosa prequel. She is played by Anya Taylor-Joy. Furious will tell the origin story of the character of the same name, played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road.

A few years ago, a sequel to Fury Road was announced called Mad Max: Wasteland and that Hardy might return to his character, but nothing has been heard about it since.
