By registering with IMPI, IPNs can protect their products and services

With immediate effect, the National Institute of Technology (IPN) has been officially recognized by the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) as a “famous trademark”, providing legal protection for the 45 products and services it provides, in addition to retaining its identity. Consumer safety will also be ensured.

In an interview with La Razón, Polytechnic General Counsel María de los Ángeles Jasso Cisneros explained that this certification is only granted when a brand is known to the majority of the consumer public or is distributed globally.

In order to achieve this goal, Dean Arturo Reyes Sandoval submitted an application since December and began the accreditation process, which includes operating in the institution, he explained Conduct telephone inquiries in all states to certify real estate, items and other materials in your name.

“We went to the archives to show how long we had been using this brand, and all of our academic units were committed to sending us information about what monuments were in their states.

“There are several streets that are called or named after polytechnics, at least, we have either a street or a monument in every city where we have a presence; so with all this information, IMPI does analyze it , and now in September it has awarded us this prestigious brand recognition,” he declared.

This gives us more incentive so that we can avoid damage to the image by this “well-known brand” and avoid deception of consumers buying products that are not endorsed by the institute.

He explained that the registry represents all products and services generated by the IPN and that anyone else trying to register will not be able to do so.

He commented that before they were certified, their products were illegally traded, such as pirated versions, mainly black garlic, snail slime and reduced gelatin, and were classified as “deceptive products” by the Federal Council for the Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris).

“Before this, we only offered courses in paper and cardboard, clothing, shoes and hats, education, training, entertainment services, sports and cultural activities. The problem is that there are more products and services being sold illegally,” he said.

In this way, it will no longer be possible to have products bearing the Politécnico brand on the market, nor to have marketing study courses granting entrance exams for them.

He noted that as a result of this situation various actions were taken: in addition to the closure of 19 of the 201 identified fake websites, 4 complaints were filed with the Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (Profeco).

However, he noted that now that the certificate is available, action can be taken against the above-mentioned pages advertising deceptive products.

This procedure is also carried out before Cofepris to request trademark proceedings and result in the issuance of a health alert or sanctions.

Likewise, seven complaints were lodged with the Special Investigation Unit for Industrial Property Crime and the Special Investigation Unit for Environmental Crime of the Office of the Attorney General (FGR).

He pointed out that the product most affected by piracy is transfer factor (Transferon), which can be used as an adjuvant for conditions such as allergies, rhinitis, asthma, chronic sinusitis, cancer, human papillomavirus and respiratory infections such as COVID-19. -19. Or the flu.

He dug into the fact that others were trying to sell it and even took it to the media, but on September 23, it was retracted.

“This gives us more motivation, and through this ‘well-known brand’ we can not only avoid damage to our image, but also avoid deceiving consumers who buy products that are not endorsed by the institute,” he explained.

This impact also translated to the IPN economy, as they found through one exchange that people selling pirated products such as jackets, hats and T-shirts made $5 million in profits from July 2022 to the same month this year. Year.

He pointed out that the most important thing now is that people feel safe and that all Polytechnic products can be identified by “IPN Original” on product labels and “IPN Quality Seal” on services.

“The options our institute pursues are ones that protect not only the scientific and technical contributions of our students but also those of our graduates, our professors, promote the values and principles of our society, and continue to build on our previous 87 years of experience. And allow Technology serves the country,” he said.
