Immediately after the release of his new track with Sam Smith, Charlie XCX caught up with Audacy Julia discuss new music and much more.

Talking about how “In The City” came about, Charlie revealed that she and Sam, who are “sort of” from the same town in London, had been wanting to team up for quite some time.
“We kind of bounced ideas back and forth until we found what we thought was right for us.” Delving deeper into the topic they settled on, Charlie said, “It’s kind of like meeting people at a party that you really connect with and that inspire you and that you kind of stay friends with or bond with for the rest of your life.”
After running through some of the iconic pop tracks and artists she chooses to party with, as well as the scary but mostly safe stunt scene in her “Speed Drive” video, Charli explained to a curious Julia what she had in mind. underneath the caption, “I’m everywhere, I’m so Julia,” which she placed on a screenshot of the notes app she shared after having her wisdom teeth removed.
“This is actually a reference to the lyrics of a song that hasn’t been released yet… This is actually a reference to Julia Fox, which I think is just a standard, you know. Especially at one point she was just like everyone else… So, about the song I can’t talk much about it because it’s not out yet, but sooner or later it will be out, but that’s exactly what it’s about “
Also, I’m not going to talk about writing music together. Jack Antonoff for the A24 film Mother MaryWith the film “still in progress”, Charlie noted that “it was a really interesting experience, a movie about a pop star, but I don’t think I can say more than that, but yeah, it was cool… It was a different dynamic.” , because I write for other artists, but it’s a whole different thing because it’s a fictional artist… but I really had a great time doing it and I think it’s going to be really pretty epic.”
Composing music for Mother Mary This is not the first time Charlie has taken on this particular task, having previously worked on the film’s soundtrack. Bottom. “It’s great to work alongside a director who has such an intuitive eye for music and really has an understanding of how music is used to enhance his vision for a film.”
“I guess you work differently and I really like it. So yeah, I think I’ll probably do a little more of that, and honestly, I’m lazy and I don’t want to be on stage forever,” she joked, “so you know a little backup plan.”
