The NFL announced Tuesday that Sunday’s game between the champion Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt, Germany, became the most-watched game in its international series history, with 9.6 million viewers.

“The game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins was watched by 9.6 million viewers, the largest audience of any game in an international series,” the NFL noted in a statement.

It was the first of two games in Germany during the 2023 season, with the Chiefs defeating the Dolphins 21-14 at Deutsche Bank Park. The second game is next Sunday between the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts.

NFL sources also highlighted that digital transmissions of games this season generated an average of 465,000 viewers per minute, the highest in international series history.

The NFL’s regular season international game program began in 2005, when Mexico City’s Aztec Stadium became its first home stadium outside the United States.

In 2007, the series expanded to London and in 2022 to Germany.
