Chrissy Teigen was “hesitant” about renewing her wedding vows to husband John Legend.
The 37-year-old model and 44-year-old singer John returned to their wedding venue – Lake Como in Italy – over the weekend to tie the knot for their tenth anniversary, and it actually turned out to be “much more emotional”. than the couple expected.
She told PEOPLE: “It was really special.
“A lot more emotional than I expected, but actually so good. And I just feel so happy, so happy, and in the most banal terms. It was so damn cute and amazing.”
The couple barely had time to see each other as they celebrated with loved ones.
She said, “The person you talk to least about these things is your husband.
“I’m like, I don’t even remember him.”
As for why she had reservations about the renewal, she explained: “I didn’t want it to be a vow renewal.
“I come from the Real Housewives world and vow renewals are the kiss of death, but I thought, ‘Let’s kiss it.’ Let’s do it.'”
The former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover star joked that while she would love to repeatedly renew her vows every 10 years, her bank balance wouldn’t approve.
She joked: “My accountant says I can do it every 25 years. But no, I would, but you want to make it special too. And I really don’t like holidays, whether it’s my birthday or something like that. But I love gratitude and I love thanking the people who have been there for the last 17 years of our relationship. That was everything for me.”
The couple, who are parents to seven-year-old Luna Simone, five-year-old Miles Theodore, nine-month-old Esty Maxine and two-month-old Ren Alexander, did not spend money on gifts for each other to mark the big occasion.
She added: “It didn’t even cross our minds.
“I mean, kids? I don’t know. I come from a school… It’s so terrible, which is probably what you live for, when someone says, “This is so terrible,” but I’m a girl and I think he should get things. But I will say that we really didn’t understand anything. I don’t need anything at all.”
