Model and social media personality Chrissy Teigen is at the center of a copyright infringement lawsuit after posting a photo of fellow celebrity Katie Holmes on Instagram.
Photographer Ulises Ramales filed an eight-page copyright infringement complaint against Teigen in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on September 9. 5.
Ramales notes that just days later, on June 19, the model shared a photo of Holmes taken on June 16, 2022, on her Instagram Story. The photo shows Holmes walking down the street wearing a cropped jacket, wide-leg denim pants and quilted trousers. handbag and flat shoes. The ensemble prompted Teigen to exclaim that she would “live in this outfit” under an image posted to her Instagram account.
Ramales says the image is copyrighted and that Teigen never asked him to use it or compensated him for sharing it.
The photographer, represented by the Sanders Law Group in Uniondale, New York, is seeking unspecified damages and a court order requiring Teigen to remove the post from her Instagram.
