Genoa, 6 September 2023 – A thread runs through the history of cinema – the blue denim thread. From September 12 to October 6, 2023, the Sivori and Ariston theaters in Genoa will host the “Cinema in Blue Jeans” show, organized by Circuito with the participation of the Municipality of Genoa. It was conceived as a preliminary stage of the GenovaJeans event, scheduled from 5 to 8 October in the historic center of the city, with the aim of presenting Genoa as the new center of the new generation denim community, highlighting the historical and cultural value of jeans to the city to which it owes its name, in order to encourage responsible production and consumption of textiles to protect the planet and spread the culture of reuse and recycling.
Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Olivia Newton-John, John Travolta, Jake Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledge, John Savage: many stars are immortalized in fabric born in Genoa, trousers, jackets, shirts, iconic clothing designed for sailors and miners, promoted by fashion heroes middle of the last century.
Jeans as a tool of seduction, teenage wear, a symbol of protest, workwear, even killer jeans: these are just some of the possible interpretations of blue canvas pants that can be seen in the films selected for review: Misfits by John Huston (September 12 in Sivori) , “Grease” by Randal Kleiser (September 19 in Sivori), “Brokeback Mountain” by Ang Lee (September 26 in Sivori), “Hair” by Milos Forman (October 5 in Ariston) , “Slaxx” by Elsa Kefart (October 6 in Ariston) .
All films will be presented by journalist Renato Tortarolo.
On September 12 at 21.15 at the Sivori cinema (Salita Santa Caterina 54r.) the exhibition will begin with John Huston’s Out of Place (1961), preceded by an introduction by Anna Orlando, GenovaJeans curator for the municipality of Genoa, Matteo.
