Cinema Eye Awards
Hulu series Project 1619 and Showtime feature Nothing is eternal received three leading nominations each today as Cinema Eye Honors announced its first round of nominees for the prestigious documentary awards.
Project 1619, based on Nikole Hannah-Jones’ Pulitzer Prize-winning study of slavery in North America and its impact to the present day, was nominated for best anthology series, television editing and television cinematography. The six-episode series was produced by Oprah Winfrey, Oscar winner Roger Ross Williams and Hannah-Jones.
Nothing is eternalDirector Jason Cohn’s brilliant exploration of the world of diamonds – their true appearance and the emergence of undetectable “synthetic” diamonds – was nominated for best broadcast film, television editing and cinematography. Other films and TV series that received multiple nominations include the Hulu film. Sweet Baby: Brooke Shields; National Geographic’s Edge of the Unknown with Jimmy Chin; Netflix Our Planet II; Forex Dear Momand Peacock Paul T. Goldman.
The Cinema Eye Honors have been running for 17 years.th of the Year “recognizes outstanding artistic achievement in documentary and documentary films and series,” including directing, producing, cinematography, editing, composition, sound and visual design, “and recognizes the contributions of participants in front of the camera.”
Nominees in additional categories will be announced on November 9.th The Cinema Eye Honors Awards will be presented on January 12 at the New York Academy of Medicine in East Harlem.
In addition to the broadcast categories, Cinema Eye today announced a long list of 20 films that won the Audience Award; fans can vote starting today to determine the winner of this award (past nominees have included RBG, Summer of the Soul, Free soloAnd Navalny).
Cinema Eye also announced the 10 films that will make it to this year’s Shorts List, the organization’s annual list of semi-finalists in the field of documentary shorts (a maximum of six of these semi-finalists will be up for nominations next month). The awards ceremony also announced the annual “Unforgettable” list, “Cinema Eye’s unique category that celebrates the collaboration between filmmakers and participants in front of the camera.”
