Each webinar will feature policy experts from NHS England and CPPE

Community Pharmacy England (CPE) is organizing a series of webinars to help pharmacy owners and their teams prepare for the implementation of the new Pharmacy First service and changes to contraceptive and hypertension case finding services.

The organization announced on Thursday (November 30) that from December 5, the webinars will be held throughout December and January with support from NHS England and the Center for Postgraduate Education (CPPE).

During the online workshop, pharmacy teams will learn about each of the services that have been announced and what they need to consider before starting to offer or expand these services.

Each webinar will be led by the CPE service team and feature policy experts from NHS England and CPPE as speakers.

Not only pharmacy owners and their teams, but anyone interested in providing services can attend the webinar.

The Pharmacy First service is scheduled to launch on January 31, 2024, and pharmacists will be able to provide consultation, advice and dispense medicines where appropriate for seven common conditions.

These include sinusitis, sore throat, acute otitis media, infected insect bites, impetigo, herpes zoster, and uncomplicated urinary tract infection in women.

Pharmacies in England will also offer a new contraceptive service from December, allowing women to get the pill without having to make an appointment with their GP.

Previously, the hypertension case finding service was only provided by pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, but from 1 December 2023, the service can be provided by appropriately trained and competent pharmacy staff.
