Lionel Messi is expected to win his eighth Ballon d’Or later this month, news that has upset eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo – who still has the award Five – will feel fear
Cristiano Ronaldo is furious with Ballon d’Or organizers after Lionel Messi won the Ballon d’Or in 2021, accusing them of lying.
Ronaldo remains a five-time Ballon d’Or winner and is expected to fall further behind his eternal rival when Messi claims his eighth on October 30. Earlier this week, reports emerged that the Inter Miami star would receive the award in 2023 after winning the World Cup with Argentina.
Messi, 36, last won the iconic Ballon d’Or two years ago when he beat Poland forward Robert Lewandowski in a controversial decision. That night, Ronaldo launched an angry rant on social media after playmaker Pascal Ferre claimed the Portuguese’s “only” career goal was to win more Ballon d’Ors than Messi.
Ferre, editor-in-chief of France Football magazine, which awards the Ballon d’Or, told the New York Times: “Ronaldo has only one ambition, which is to win more Ballon d’Ors than Messi when he retires, and I know this because he Told me.”
Ronaldo responded angrily to Ferre’s comments, accusing him of lying and insisting he had always promoted “sportsmanship”. The former Manchester United hero wrote on Instagram: “Today’s result explains why Pascal Ferre’s comments last week when he said I confided in him that my only goal was to get Leone at the end of my career More Ballon d’Ors for Messi.”
“Pascal Ferre lied and used my name to promote himself and the publication he worked for. It is unacceptable that someone responsible for handing out such a prestigious award would lie in this way and it is absolutely unacceptable. Disrespect to a man who has always respected France.” Football and the Ballon d’Or.

“He lied again today, using the so-called quarantine to justify my absence from the evening. I always want to congratulate those who won, whose sportsmanship and fair play have guided my career from the beginning, and which I I do this because I never hold anything against anyone.
“I always win for myself and the club I represent, I win for myself and those who love me. I won’t win against anyone. My biggest ambition in my career is to win national and international titles for the club I represent. And our country’s national team.

“My greatest career ambition is to set a good example for all those who are or want to become professional football players. My greatest career ambition is to leave my name in the history of world football.”
“The last thing I want to say is that my focus is already on the next game for Manchester United and everything we can still achieve this season with my team-mates and the fans. The rest? The rest is just leftover……”
