Manchester United have invested £7 million in a new women’s training center at the club’s Carrington base.
The high-performance facility, unveiled on Tuesday, will be used by the women’s team and the men’s academy.
The facilities house gym locker rooms, equipment and boot rooms, the women’s first team cafeteria, meeting rooms and players’ lounges.
The redevelopment of the club’s training ground comes nearly a year after Cristiano Ronaldo harshly criticized the club’s “lack of development” and “outdated training facilities” during his second spell at Old Trafford, which ends in 2022. .
But United’s director of women’s football, Polly Bancroft, preferred to highlight the good work the club has done to show their commitment to women’s football, revealing the facility took just seven months to build.
“We are very excited to open our new building in Carrington,” Bancroft said. “It’s a dedicated space for the women’s college and some men’s colleges.
“We are in our sixth season of the women’s team re-starting at Manchester United and so much has changed in that time. The opening of the building is an important milestone and aims to deliver a high-performance environment that matches the high performance on the pitch. High performance environment.
“We now have brand new facilities including a gym, analysis rooms, conference rooms, canteen, physiotherapy rooms, doctors’ rooms.
“The construction time on this project was actually very quick – it took a total of seven months from the start until the excavators went into the ground until we moved in.”
“This building is just part of our one-club strategy at Manchester United and having the facilities at Carrington visible to the women’s football team and everyone else is a great statement.”
Any further development of the club’s facilities is likely to depend on the club’s future ownership, with British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe expected to take a 25% minority stake.
Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim’s long-standing interest appears to have taken a U-turn as he becomes frustrated with the lack of progress in protracted talks to buy the club from the Glazer family.
