Deaths among patients at Al-Shifa Hospital have increased significantly

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said today (Sunday) that the number of deaths among patients at Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital has increased significantly and that the situation is “dangerous and painful ”, according to what was reported by the Arab World News Agency.

Adhanom added that the organization managed to contact its medical teams at the hospital, stressing that the ongoing shootings had exacerbated the already critical conditions at the hospital.

The Director General of the World Health Organization declared, through his official account on the “X” platform: “3 days have passed without electricity and water, and with very weak internet services, which have seriously compromised our ability to provide assistance basic healthcare,” underlining that the hospital no longer carries out its function as a hospital. He stressed that the world cannot remain silent while hospitals are transformed into “theatres of death and destruction”, calling for an immediate ceasefire.

The director of the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza, Muhammad Abu Salmiya, told the agency that “there are hundreds of bodies in front of the emergency room, and we cannot bury them due to the Israeli siege of the hospital, like everything else moves around the hospital and the bombing continues up to this moment”.

Abu Salamiya added: “The situation in the hospital is indescribable. There is no electricity, no water, no operating rooms, no blood labs, no X-rays, and the nursery now barely helps premature babies.”
