This year’s Burning Man descended into chaos when tired revelers began fighting during a mass exodus from the festival last Monday.

Tempers ran high as an hours-long line of vans and campers en route from the Nevada desert, with police warning that many had become hostile towards each other.

Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen said the exhausted partygoers “turned on” each other after finally breaking down after a weekend of rain and mud.

Footage posted by DailyMail.com showed snaking crowds of vehicles slowly moving across the sand as they headed towards exits on Monday.

Some tried to cut each other off while others swerved in the mud to avoid being killed, with reports of patience running out at the standstill.

This happened when the grand finale – the burning of the “man” – finally began a day later, when the wooden statue was lit for the dwindling crowd that remained.

Meanwhile, officials have named the man who died during the festival on Saturday as Leon Rees, 32, as they admitted the weather had hampered their response.

“As is common in what burners call the ‘default world,’ people let their emotions get the better of them and they turn on each other as they leave the playa and try to get to their next destination,” Pershing County Sheriff. Allen told the San Francisco Chronicle.

“This behavior certainly does not fall under the 10 principles of Burning Man, but it is also not BMP’s fault, but a social problem.”

Allen also said unusual weather delayed the arrival of emergency services when Rees collapsed last Saturday.

According to him, an investigation is underway and a toxicological report is being prepared. The sheriff said the extreme weather caused problems with trash removal.

“This year is a little different in that there are multiple vehicles scattered across the beach for miles,” the sheriff said.

The annual gathering, which began on San Francisco Beach in 1986, attracts approximately 80,000 artists, musicians and activists to enjoy a combination of wilderness camping and avant-garde performances.

Exit: This year’s Burning Man descended into chaos as weary revelers began fighting during a mass exodus from the festival last Monday.

Disruptions are part of the event’s recent history: in 2018, due to dust storms, organizers temporarily closed the entrance to the festival, and during the pandemic, the event was canceled altogether twice.

President Joe Biden told reporters in Delaware that he was aware of the situation at Burning Man, including the death, and the White House was in contact with local authorities.

On its best days, the event is held remotely and emphasizes self-sufficiency.

During the flood, revelers were urged to conserve food and water and most remained hunkered down at the scene.

However, some participants managed to walk several miles to the nearest town or catch a ride there.

Diplo, whose real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz, posted a video on Instagram of him and The Rock riding in the back of a fan’s pickup truck. He said they walked six miles through mud before setting off.

“I actually spent hours walking on the side of the road with my thumb stuck out,” Diplo wrote.
