Doc Rivers drops Michael Jordan truth bomb over Giannis Antetokounmpo MVP ‘disrespect’

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo already has two MVP trophies. He may now be on his way to winning his third championship of the season, making for a truly impressive season for the Bucks talisman.

However, despite Giannis’ impressive results this season, there are still many who don’t believe he should be the front-runner for the MVP title. According to Bucks head coach Doc Rivers, it was simply disrespectful.

According to Coach Doc, Antetokounmpo’s MVP title this season didn’t attract enough attention for one main reason. Rivers believes Giannis is following in the footsteps of the GOAT himself, Michael Jordan.

That’s not to say the Bucks star is emulating Jordan’s excellence or anything like that (or is he?), but Rivers believes that, like Jordan, the pundits may be a little too carried away by Antetokounmpo’s greatness Numb:

“I don’t even want to get into it, but there are some guys that you’re tired of voting for,” Rivers said, via The Athletic’s Eric Nehm. “Michael (Jordan) is probably the poster child for that.

“Giannis seems to fall into that category; when you’re that good, everything you do is taken for granted. When you just look at his numbers, they’re unbelievable, but you never hear about him name. It’s unbelievable, but in some ways it’s a sign of respect, not disrespect.”

He was not wrong.

Regardless, Antetokounmpo is considered one of the “sleepers” to win the MVP title in the 2023-24 season. The current consensus favorites are Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Giannis and Rivers may plan to change that narrative soon.
