The protagonist of this story is Reddit group r/wallstreetbets – among which were small private investors and social media trolls – who managed to turn the Wall Street stock market on its head inflation of shares of the GameStop brand, with the aim of ruining some wealthy hedge fund managers who were short selling, or a sort of bet on the loss of value of the same stocks. The case immediately became media coverage, causing devastating consequences and turning into the perfect plot of a financial thriller, to which sony finally took shape.
