Dwayne Johnson won’t just be returning to Fast & Furious, he’s getting his own spin-off

Connection between Dwayne Johnson and one of Hollywood’s most famous franchises is rapidly changing. From a stormy relationship with VIN diesel which allegedly kept him out of production for a long time, to a surprise appearance in a post-credits scene in Quick XNow the news has come that Dwayne Johnson will be the focus of one of the new films in the series.

Johnson said – with magazine confirmation Wrapper – who will soon appear in a movie about the character Luke Hobbs. Apparently, the film will not be a sequel to the 2019 spin-off, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shawin which Johnson starred. On the contrary, it will be the next film in the franchise.

In a Twitter video, Johnson said he was overwhelmed by fans’ enthusiasm for the news of his return: “Keeping the news of Hobbs’ return a secret was very difficult,” he elaborated. He then added that he and Diesel “were like brothers for many years”, despite the well-known tension between them.

“Next movie Fast and Furious introduce a new chapter and lay the groundwork for Quick X: Part 2Johnson wrote. “Last summer, Vin and I put the past behind us. We will behave like brothers and always find solutions to get along. We will take care of the franchise, the characters and the fans we care about.”

Chris Morganauthor Hobbs and Shaw and many other films of the author Fast and Furious, will sign the story and script, with Johnson and Diesel also serving as producers. No plot details have yet been released other than what Johnson said about whether the film will be a bridge between the recent Quick X and the next chapter in the main franchise. It is likely that the Hobbs film will take place during the same period as Quick X and dive into the character and events leading up to the end credits scene.

Johnson joined the franchise in fast five, a 2011 film in which he played a muscular and charismatic diplomatic special agent tasked with countering Diesel’s character, Dominic Torettoand his gang. A bit like the case Deckard Shaw From Jason Statham, Luke Hobbs over the course of the series, he went from antagonist to ally, often providing government protection for not-so-legitimate activities. Sun and his gang.

Johnson’s role in the franchise peaked with Hobbs and Shaw. The film is a vision that may not be fundamental, but is nonetheless explosive and compelling thanks to the actor’s interpretive skills. But then there were countless reports of tensions between Diesel, the series’ de facto captain, and Johnson, arguably the world’s biggest action star, who helped propel the franchise to new levels of international prominence. In a December 2021 interview with CNN, Johnson said he would never return to the franchise.

Release date not yet known Quick X: Part 2, although Diesel expected CinemaCon that the film will be released in 2025. This means that Johnson & Co. very busy schedule to write, direct and release this other film before the promo tour for FXP2. However, it is not even known at what stage the production of the project is. Meanwhile, Johnson is hard at work on a variety of things, from sequels to San Andreas AND Jungle Cruiseto his upcoming Christmas action movie, Red.
