ABU DHABI, 4th July, 2023 (WAM) — The Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Abu Dhabi hosted the Middle East premiere of ‘Mission: Impossible – Death Payback Part One’ starring Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff and Simon Pegg and director Christopher McQuarrie on the red carpet.
The highly anticipated seventh installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise was filmed at the Midfield Terminal Building and in the Liwa Desert for 15 days in 2021 with the full support of the Creative Media Authority’s Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC).
Filming took place inside the terminal, on the roof of a 742,000 square meter building and on the world’s longest single arch at 180 meters, with the film being seen inside the facility for the first time.
The complexity of filming included the construction of an Arab village in Liwa and various complex sets in the terminal, which required the combined efforts of several organizations in Abu Dhabi, including twofour54, which provided a full range of production services, and Abu Dhabi Airports (AD Airports). and Etihad Airways, the film’s official partner, who together facilitated access to the Midfield terminal building.
The cast and crew arrived in the UAE aboard an Etihad 787 Dreamliner, which also filmed some of the film’s scenes.
The premiere featured an exclusive video presented by Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi), showing behind the scenes of the technically complex and ambitious production in Abu Dhabi, as well as a first look at the fight scenes filmed there.
This marks the second time the Mission: Impossible franchise has filmed in Abu Dhabi, following the thrilling solo jump scene filmed in the emirate for 2018’s Mission: Impossible Fallout.
