American actor Lance Reddick passed away today in Los Angeles at the age of 60. He had become famous thanks to the role of police commander Cedric Daniels in the series ‘The Wire’ as well as the hotel concierge in the fourth installment of the ‘John Wick’ franchise.

The news of the death, according to what we read in the New York Times, was given by his spokesperson, Mia Hansen. The causes of death are not known.

Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Reddick began his career in 1996 with a role in an episode of the television series New York Undercover. In 2000 and 2001 he played the part of Detective Johnny Basil in the HBO television series ‘Oz’. In 2002 he appears in the video clip ’03 Bonnie & Clyde ‘by Jay-Z and Beyoncé in the role of a police officer.

However, it was ‘The Wire’ that crowned him, a series aired on Hbo until 2008 in which he played Lieutenant Cedric Daniels. ‘The Wire’ is a tough, realistic and unforgiving account of American society in its relationship to drug-related crime. It also shows the links between poverty and related drug trade. The five-season series is set in Baltimore, a city with one of the highest homicide rates in the country. It has also been called one of the best written ever.
