Florence, discovering the secrets of agroecology

Florence, 14 April 2023 – Between Florence and Fiesole, from Saturday 29 April to Wednesday 3 May, will take place Fundamentals and practices of peasant agro-ecology”the course organized by the association Study Center for the new peasant agriculture. The meeting will deal with both the fundamentals of agro-ecology and exchanges and conversations on new agricultural practices, including the transformation of flour, and is aimed at those who want to approach cultivation with a green approach.

Everyone will have free access to the first two introductory days, 29 and 30 April, which will be held at Palazzo Pucci in Florence, while, from 1 to 3 May, participation will be limited to only 20 people and will be held at local farms in the area of Ortignano-Fiesole (via di Paterno 2, Ortignano).

These five days are aimed at all those who want to approach the world of cultivation with a green approach, as well as being dedicated to a resilient and sustainable agricultural model in the continuous search for solutions that put nature at the centre.

The program

The course will provide theoretical and practical knowledge on the application of peasant agro-ecology, concerning the main cycles of the soil as an ecosystem, the associated cultures, the ecological diagnosis of a piece of land and the regeneration of the soils. They will be innovative meetings, which will bring an uncommon social history of farmers and a way of discovering the meanings of the presence of spontaneous plants in cultivated land, such as phytopathology, where nature itself provides indications to men on how to enhance their fertility.

Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 April the themes of agriculture, advent, practice and the fundamentals of peasant agro-economy will be dealt with, in addition to the presence of a round table on the experiences of peasant agro-ecology on farms and the re-appropriation and innovation of agricultural knowledge and practices.

Moderator of the round table will be Francesca della Giovampaola of the Bosco di Ogigia, while the participants will be Nicolas Supiot, with a panel on the Breton family farm in agro-ecology and peasant seeds, polyculture, livestock, transformation into flour, bread, oil and meat for direct sale; the geneticist Salvatore Ceccarelliwho will talk about evolutionary genetic improvement in the new peasant agriculture and the Italian experiences; John Cerranoon a bread-making farm in peasant agro-ecology in Tuscany; Charles Triaricopresident of the biodynamic association with biodynamics for peasant agro-ecology; Fabio Pinzi And Eva Eisenreich on permaculture, regenerative and syntropic organic agriculture for the new peasant agriculture; Ran (network of natural agriculture), with the agriculture of the straw thread revolution and finally Lorenzo Venturinipresident of the College of Agricultural Experts of the united provinces of Florence, Siena, Arezzo.

Instead, the days from 1st to 3rd May will be dedicated to the practical part, which will take place on farms in the Val di Sambre and in the Le Sieci countryside, where it will be possible to see examples of agroecology on the local farms of the Study Center for the new peasant agriculture. The organizers

The course is organized by the association Study center for the new peasant agricultureborn after the publication of the volume of the Italian Ecologist of 2022, “New Peasant Agriculture”as a community movement of people that makes the multiplication of practical knowledge, active research and studies on the territory for parts of catchment basins definable as eco-districts, an activity of increasing political skills in the direction of the common good.

The association promotes all forms of cultivation that operate by reclaiming the land (biodynamic, biological, natural, perma-culture, synergistic, syntropic, etc.).
