Influenza has returned to similar levels as in 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, which led countries around the world to adopt biosecurity measures, resulting in an overall decrease in influenza cases.

The warning comes from the World Health Organization (WHO), which recommends vaccination against influenza and coronavirus, especially for vulnerable groups. The Ecuadorian Ministry of Health announced that it will launch a flu vaccination campaign starting from October 24 as a preventive measure against the upcoming El Niño phenomenon. Considering the global incidence of respiratory disease, this is good news. The bad news is that this is just another case of us not learning from experience. Some researchers warn that the impact of COVID-19 will be felt in the future and that influenza could cause other major illnesses. Health is not a topic that can be downplayed.

Flu vaccination campaign to start early on October 24

During the pandemic, few people get the flu unless they have COVID-19. The movement to maintain biosecurity measures is permanent, and the fear of coronavirus has not only normalized the use of masks, but also made people constantly wash their hands, use disinfectants and clean everything they buy.
