In accordance with plans from the Ministry of Public Health’s immunization program, influenza vaccination campaigns continue across the province.
The group most at risk is people over 65, so vaccinators from the provincial health department go to their homes in the capital and provincial areas to administer the vaccine.
Among the permanently resident elderly population, more than 450 people have been vaccinated. Immunization Program Manager, adrienne jule“About 90% of residents at home have been vaccinated,” he said.
The official added that “not only residents have been vaccinated, but also people who work in nursing homes and take care of retirees.” In addition to influenza virus vaccines, immunization procedures have also been completed.
In the capital, 21 institutions have received assistance, while in the province, the immunization program is coordinated with hospitals in Tatagal, Oran, Rosario de Lerma and Chicoana.
2024 events
For the 2024 campaign, the province of Salta has received 113,220 doses of vaccine from the national Ministry of Health.
The vaccine has been distributed to all operational areas for mass immunization through health facilities in hospitals and health centres, health posts, vaccinations and in the homes of rural populations.
Flu vaccination campaigns begin in the fall to ensure people are vaccinated before the winter season when flu viruses circulate more.
“While vaccination continues throughout the year, it is expected to vaccinate as many people as possible in this first phase,” said Adriana Jure, head of the immunization program.
These doses are used for:
- health personnel
- Pregnant women, at any time during pregnancy
- Postpartum women, within 10 days after delivery
- Children 6 to 24 months old
- Over 65 years old
- People between the ages of 2 and 64 with risk factors
Public security and armed forces personnel will also be able to receive the vaccine free of charge, subject to vaccine availability.
The flu vaccine can be given with other vaccines (including the COVID-19 vaccine) or at any time interval.
