From Raval the cat to Pietrasanta the horse: the most beautiful extra-large Botero sculptures in the world.

Not only a painter, Botero was also madly in love with sculpture. His works are scattered all over the world: from Colombia to Spain, from Germany to Italy. Here is a selection of the most beautiful, famous and significant

He painted exclusively three-dimensional figures and his sculptures were no different! From a huge, plump Cat almost seven meters long, located in the El Raval district of Barcelona, ​​to an exaggerated Horse in Pietrasanta, a Tuscan municipality that the artist has frequently visited for many years.

We are naturally talking about the genius Fernando Botero, who died today, September 15, 2023, at the age of 91, to whom we want to pay tribute with this selection of very large sculptures scattered throughout the world.

Let’s start with the “Gato”, a bronze sculpture that eventually became a very popular tourist attraction and was acquired by the city of Barcelona in 1987.

He did not find a permanent home until 2003, when he was settled on the Rambla del Raval, where he still seems to feel especially at home!

Equally exaggerated is “The Bird”, a huge bronze bird located on Raffles Place in Singapore, where it was installed in 1990. It symbolizes the joy of life and the power of optimism. The bird is in good company, as other sculptures by the Colombian artist can be admired in Singapore, such as the Dancing Nude Couple and the Reclining Woman.

In the Israel Museum in Jerusalem we find “Man on a Horse”, a sculpture from 1992 depicting a man on horseback.

If cats are your thing, at Medellin’s Plaza Botero, a veritable open-air museum, you can admire more than 20 sculptures by the Colombian artist, including a huge cat.

In Tuscany, we have the honor of hosting a horse more than 3 meters tall and weighing one and a half tons: we are talking about the “Horse with a Bridle”, exhibited in the central square of Pietrasanta.

We then move to Germany, more specifically to Bamberg on Heumarkt, a city in northern Bavaria, where Botero is recognized by his “Lady with Fruit,” a curvaceous woman who lies prone, enjoying sweet fruit.

Instead, in Monte Carlo we find Adam and Eve, two sculptures from 1981, located next to the Opera House and Casino.
